Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation
Welcome to the new season of the podcast, now titled "Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation"!
Join your host, Pastor Robert Young, as we embark on a journey of spiritual exploration and renewal. This podcast is designed to help you deepen your faith and find inner peace through calming, reflective, and transformative meditative practices inspired by scripture.
Our Evolution
While the podcast, formerly known as Not Your Parent's Religion, focused in Seasons 1 and 2 on correcting misinformation and myths about religious beliefs and the teaching of Jesus Christ, the program has evolved. In Season 3, we began drawing closer to God with guided meditations, exploring all the details of why and how to meditate, and discussing the Biblical origins of Christian meditations.
With over 30 years of experience in Church planting and mentoring other Pastors, and 30+ years of training leaders in evangelism/discipleship, Pastor Young is here to guide you through these moments of stillness and connection with God.
What to Expect in Season 4
We are excited to return with Season 4 starting Sunday, October 5. We will continue to offer a structured weekly schedule:
- Sundays: Our weekly guided meditation episode.
- Monday through Friday: Daily devotions and reflections that expand on the topic of the Sunday meditations.
- Wednesdays: Audio episodes of our House Church series. This series reflects the Bible's teaching that believers should gather together for corporate worship, fellowship, encouragement, and even admonishment.
For those seeking an enhanced experience, we are adding video versions of the meditations and devotions to our Patreon page. These videos are designed to give you a more immersive experience as you meditate on the Father, His teachings, and His presence.
Tune in each week as we lead you on this path to connecting more deeply with God.

A Father’s Day Blessing!
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Father’s Day can hit nerves you didn’t expect. Maybe you feel thankful for a dad who showed up, or maybe you’re carrying the ache of absence, distance, harsh words, or grief. We slow down and make room for all of it, because your story matters and you don’t have to pretend it’s simple.
We also wrestle with a big spiritual question: how do we see God when our experience of fatherhood is complicated? Jesus gives us a clearer lens. In John 14:9, he says, “If you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Father,” so we look at Christ’s compassion, patience, strength, and tenderness as the truest picture of God’s heart. We talk about how many of us unconsciously project our earthly father onto God and how that can make God feel distant, harsh, or absent, even when he isn’t.
Then we lean into healing and hope through Scripture: God is a father to the fatherless (Psalm 68:5), close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), and rich in compassion (Psalm 103:13). We offer a word to dads who are trying, reminding you that your kids don’t need perfection, they need presence. We end with a calming breath, honest reflection questions, and a spoken blessing over you and the fathers in your life. If this encouraged you, subscribe, share it with someone who needs it, and leave a review so more listeners can find it.

Father’s Day Holds Mixed Feelings
Pastor Robert YoungHi friends, this is Pastor Young, and today we're taking a moment to reflect and to honor Father's Day. For some, this day is full of gratitude, for others, it's a little bit more complicated, and for many, it's a mix of both. Wherever you find yourself, know that you are welcome here. Father's Day is one of those days that touches something deep in all of us. Because fathers shape us with their presence, their absence, their love, their silence, their strength, even their struggle. Some of us grew up with a father who showed up, who tried, who loved us the best he could. Some of us grew up with a father who wasn't there, physically, emotionally, or spiritually. Some of us lost our fathers too soon. Some of us are fathers trying to figure it out as we go. And some of us carry wounds we don't always have words for. So, before we go any further, I want to say this. Whatever your
Jesus Reveals The Father’s Heart
Pastor Robert Youngstory is, God sees it, God honors it, and God meets you in it. When Jesus talked about God, he didn't reach for titles like ruler or judge or master. Even though all of those things are true, the word he used most often was Father. In John chapter 14, verse 9, Jesus said, If you've seen me, you've seen the Father. If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus. Look at his compassion. Look at his patience, his strength, his tears. Look at his willingness to sit with the broken, to restore the ashamed, and to welcome the outsider. Jesus is the perfect picture of the Father's heart.
How Our Dad Shapes Our God View
Pastor Robert YoungAnd that matters because many of us learn to see God through the lens of our earthly Father. More times than not, if your father was distant, that's how you saw God. If your father was harsh, that's how you saw God. If your father was absent, then God felt absent also. But Jesus comes to rewrite that story. In the book of Psalms, chapter 68, verse 5, it says, A father to the fatherless, not metaphorically, not symbolically, but personally. God is the father who stays, the father who listens, the father who protects, the father who delights in his children, the father
A Father To The Fatherless
Pastor Robert Youngwho runs toward the prodigal son, not away from him. Even if your earthly father couldn't be what you needed, your heavenly father is everything you longed for and more. And let me say that again. Even if your earthly father couldn't be what you needed, your heavenly father is everything that you long for and more. And to the fathers listening today, I want to honor you. Your kids don't need perfection, they need presence. They need humility, they need love that keeps showing up. In Psalms 103 verse 13, it says, As a father has
To Dads: Presence Over Perfection
Pastor Robert Youngcompassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him. Your compassion matters. Your effort matters. Your healing matters. Your growth matters. Every step you take toward emotional and spiritual health becomes a blessing that ripples through generations. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for trying. Thank you for loving your family in the ways you know how. For those carrying pain today, and for those who feel the ache today, the ache of loss or distance or disappointment, I want to speak this over you. Your story is not defined by what you didn't receive. Your identity is not shaped by someone else's absence. Your future is not limited by your past. Psalms chapter 34, verse 18 says, The Lord is close to the brokenhearted. God draws near to the place
Hope For The Brokenhearted
Pastor Robert Youngand places that hurt. He fills the gaps. He restores what was lost. He becomes the Father your soul has always needed. So let's take a breath. Breathe in. Now breathe out. Ask yourself gently, what is my relationship with Father's Day? What emotions surface for me? What do I need from God as Father today? What blessing can I speak over the Fathers in my life? And let whatever rises come without judgment. And finally, let me speak a blessing over you today. May you know the love of the Father who never leaves. May his compassion heal the wounds you carry. May his presence feel the empty places. May his strength steady you. May his voice speak identity over you. You

May He guide you where you feel unsure. And may His love flow through you to the next generation. Happy Father's Day, and may God bless you.
