Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation
Welcome to the new season of the podcast, now titled "Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation"!
Join your host, Pastor Robert Young, as we embark on a journey of spiritual exploration and renewal. This podcast is designed to help you deepen your faith and find inner peace through calming, reflective, and transformative meditative practices inspired by scripture.
Our Evolution
While the podcast, formerly known as Not Your Parent's Religion, focused in Seasons 1 and 2 on correcting misinformation and myths about religious beliefs and the teaching of Jesus Christ, the program has evolved. In Season 3, we began drawing closer to God with guided meditations, exploring all the details of why and how to meditate, and discussing the Biblical origins of Christian meditations.
With over 30 years of experience in Church planting and mentoring other Pastors, and 30+ years of training leaders in evangelism/discipleship, Pastor Young is here to guide you through these moments of stillness and connection with God.
What to Expect in Season 4
We are excited to return with Season 4 starting Sunday, October 5. We will continue to offer a structured weekly schedule:
- Sundays: Our weekly guided meditation episode.
- Monday through Friday: Daily devotions and reflections that expand on the topic of the Sunday meditations.
- Wednesdays: Audio episodes of our House Church series. This series reflects the Bible's teaching that believers should gather together for corporate worship, fellowship, encouragement, and even admonishment.
For those seeking an enhanced experience, we are adding video versions of the meditations and devotions to our Patreon page. These videos are designed to give you a more immersive experience as you meditate on the Father, His teachings, and His presence.
Tune in each week as we lead you on this path to connecting more deeply with God.
Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation
All Night Prayer? Daily Devotion | Tuesday
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
When the world finally goes quiet, what rises in you that you’ve been too busy to feel? We open Psalm 77 and step into the night watch, where emotions are not enemies to suppress but invitations to be held. Instead of tidying our pain, we practice the psalmist’s courage: stretching out empty hands and speaking the truth to God without filters, without performance, and without fear that our tears or questions will push love away.
Guided by a short reflection, we name the feeling that has lingered under the surface—grief, anger, shame, or the ache that has no single word—and place it where it belongs. You’ll hear how prayer becomes a safe room for honesty, not a stage for perfect phrases. We explore the simple but deep shift from self-repair to surrender, and why that movement can leave us steadier even when nothing outside has changed. The refrain we offer—my heart is open, my heart is honest, my heart is held by God—serves as a portable anchor to carry through a hard day or a sleepless night.
We also share a short, contemplative practice you can repeat anytime: a two-minute pause to notice what you’re carrying and release it into God’s hands. Then we close with a prayer for places we cannot fix and wounds we cannot heal alone. This is a gentle, grounded invitation to meet God where the ache lives and to discover that the night can become sacred ground for comfort, courage, and quiet strength.
If this spoke to you, follow the show, share it with someone who needs a midnight word, and leave a review to help others find a place for honest prayer.

Scripture And Theme
Pastor Robert YoungToday's scripture is coming from the book of Psalms, chapter seventy-seven, verse two. Day of my trouble I sought the Lord in or stretched out in the night without ceasing. Except describes a night where his emotions were too heavy to ignore. Instead of suppressing them, he stretched out his hands to God. Prayer becomes a safe place for emotional honesty. During the day, we often push emotions aside and function. But at night, when the world quiets, the heart begins to speak, this is not weakness, it is invitation. God is not intimidated by your tears, your questions, or your heaviness. Night watch becomes a sacred space where emotions rise to the surface so God can meet them with comfort. Aesop entered the night overwhelmed, left the night strengthened. Let's take two minutes to reflect on the following question. What emotion have you been carrying that God is inviting you to release into his hands?
SPEAKER_01Repeat this affirmation now and throughout your day.
Pastor Robert YoungAgain, my heart is open. My heart is honest.
Closing Prayer
SPEAKER_01My heart is held by God. Closing prayer.
Pastor Robert YoungHeavenly Father, I bring you the emotions I've been holding inside. Meet me in the places I cannot fix. Heal what I cannot heal alone. For Christ's sake.
