Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation
Welcome to the new season of the podcast, now titled "Growing Closer to God with Guided Meditation"!
Join your host, Pastor Robert Young, as we embark on a journey of spiritual exploration and renewal. This podcast is designed to help you deepen your faith and find inner peace through calming, reflective, and transformative meditative practices inspired by scripture.
Our Evolution
While the podcast, formerly known as Not Your Parent's Religion, focused in Seasons 1 and 2 on correcting misinformation and myths about religious beliefs and the teaching of Jesus Christ, the program has evolved. In Season 3, we began drawing closer to God with guided meditations, exploring all the details of why and how to meditate, and discussing the Biblical origins of Christian meditations.
With over 30 years of experience in Church planting and mentoring other Pastors, and 30+ years of training leaders in evangelism/discipleship, Pastor Young is here to guide you through these moments of stillness and connection with God.
What to Expect in Season 4
We are excited to return with Season 4 starting Sunday, October 5. We will continue to offer a structured weekly schedule:
- Sundays: Our weekly guided meditation episode.
- Monday through Friday: Daily devotions and reflections that expand on the topic of the Sunday meditations.
- Wednesdays: Audio episodes of our House Church series. This series reflects the Bible's teaching that believers should gather together for corporate worship, fellowship, encouragement, and even admonishment.
For those seeking an enhanced experience, we are adding video versions of the meditations and devotions to our Patreon page. These videos are designed to give you a more immersive experience as you meditate on the Father, His teachings, and His presence.
Tune in each week as we lead you on this path to connecting more deeply with God.

Renew Your Mind Day 5 | The Newness is Here!
What changes when “new” is not a promise for later but a reality you can live right now? We open Romans 6:4 and explore how being buried with Christ and raised to new life reshapes the way we handle stress, conflict, and daily habits. Instead of waiting for the right feeling, we frame newness as identity: you are made new, so you can act with strength, choose peace, and forgive with power.
We break this down in simple, practical language. You’ll hear how to put on the new self like getting dressed each morning, turning ordinary moments into opportunities to practice trust and courage. We talk through what new perspective looks like when you’re stuck in traffic or facing a tense meeting, why peace is the presence of Christ rather than the absence of trouble, and how power shows up in small decisions—an extra breath before you reply, a kinder tone, a boundary set with clarity. Along the way, we share two reflection prompts to make the shift concrete: how you’ll approach your biggest stressor today if you truly believe the new is here, and one new reaction or habit you’ll practice before the day ends.
We close with a short prayer, asking God to open our eyes to the resources already at hand and to guide how we walk in newness at work, at home, and in our minds. If you’re hungry for a faith that changes Tuesday afternoons as much as Sunday mornings, this message is for you. Listen, try one new response, and tell us what changed. If this encouraged you, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs fresh hope, and leave a rating so more people can walk in newness today.

Today's supporting scripture is coming from the book of Romans, chapter six, verse four, where it says, Therefore, we are buried with him by baptism into death, that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. The text doesn't say the new is coming soon. It says it is here. It is a present reality. This means you have access to new perspectives, new peace, and new power right now. You have the ability to handle stress differently than you used to. You have the ability to forgive where you used to hold grudges. The new is not a feeling, it is a spiritual fact. You must put on this new self daily, like getting dressed in the morning. Our questions for reflection. If you fully believe the new is here, how would you handle your biggest stressors differently today? 2. What is one new reaction or habit you want to practice today? My prayer for you today. God, open the eyes of our listeners to the new resources that they have in you and show them how to walk in the newness in their workplace, their homes, and in their minds today. Amen.
